Tips on how to keep your car looking good and in tip top shape during the snowy winter months; from replacing carpets, lubing your latches to regular car washes and more!

Replace Carpet with Rubber Mats

• Replace carpet floor mats with rubber floor mats over top of a thick towel to avoid getting slushy, salty water on the carpet. 
• The salt causes stains on the carpet and the salty water will soak through and rust and corrode the floor.

Switch to Snow Tires

• Switch to steel or alloy wheels for the winter.
• Winter or snow tires can also benefit from a spray on protective treatment. 
• Preseason preparation of the vehicle can be done at home or by a professional detailing service center.
• Winter tires provide much more traction on snow, getting you started 33% faster from a stop sign and reducing your stopping distance by almost 30-ft.

Lube Latches and Hinges

• Latch mechanism sits right behind your grille, they corrode and seize from all the salt spray that gets kicked up by the cars in front of you. 
• Prevent corrosion by lubricating the latch mechanism before the snow flies. 
• Soak latches and hinges with spray lithium grease. 

Frequent Washing and Dry Thoroughly

• Wash your vehicle every 10 days, wash the vehicle on days when the temperature is 40 degrees or more.
• Daylight hours are preferred so there's ample time for the vehicle to dry before the evening temperature drops.
• Use fresh water and a high-pressure hose.
• Wash behind the mud flaps, under the door handles and in all cracks and crevices of your car or truck.
•  Salt buildup can occur in the undercarriage and should get particular attention.
• Dry the vehicle during the winter, leave doors open so that any trapped wash water can dry out and moisture won't pool.

Test & Clean Your Car Battery

• Car batteries have a limited life, check the condition of the battery charging system with a computerized battery tester.
• Corrosion builds up on battery posts and terminals, this can cause hard starting problems in cold weather and prevent your charging system from fully re-charging your battery.
• Disconnect the negative cable first, then the positive cable. Clean the battery terminal posts using a battery cleaning tool or wire brush. Then clean the cable terminals. Clean off all grease and acid residue.

Lubricate Window Tracks

• Freezing water can seep into the window tracks and create drag when you try to open the window, avoid the problem by lubricating the window tracks with spray silicone or dry teflon spray lubricant.
• Lower the window and shoot the spray right into the front and back window track.
